My first tiered/fondant/wonka cake

So this cake was a first of everything. I decided to try this cake because our friends wedding cake that I will be doing is a wonky cake with fondant, so I need to practice and get it looking really good for the wedding. So on this cake I watched bunch of U-tube videos on how to make the cake wonky and how to make the marshmallow fondant because that kind of fondant is way better than the other kind. This cake took from start to finish about 7-8 hours, the longest part was cooking all the cake the top tier is 4 layers and the bottom tier is 3. It took about 4 or so hours to cook all the cakes because I only have 1 -8" pan and it takes 45min. per cake to cook. that was for the bottom layer the top layer I had 2-6" pans so that one didn't take as long. I then put the cakes in the freezer over night and then I stacked and carved them into shape then we butter creamed them and put the fondant on after church and decorated them. This cake was a little easier than I thought it would be and it was really fun. oh by the way the flavor is Swiss chocolate with chocolate chunks and Carmel filling. So Delicious

Spider cake

so after I got home from class and had dinner I decorated a cake I made earlier. The cake is a Swiss chocolate with a vanilla pudding filling, Delicious!!! I took my buttercream frosting made some orange and black then I covered the hole cake in orange using my spatula. when doing this start at the top of your cake and frost from center to edge of your cake then around the size make sure you don't touch your cake with the spatula because then you end up with crumbs in your frosting. I then took a tip 3 fill a decorating bag with black frosting and I just went around trying to make it look like a spider web. for the spider a just put a blob of frosting on with my spatula then shaped and used my tip 3 to make the legs and eyes. I think it turned out pretty nice.

First class of course 2

So tonight was my first class of course 2 and it was fun. It was a small class, in my course 1 there was 16 of us and in this one there is 5 so a lot of people dropped. anyway we learned 2 new boarders and 2 flowers, the one flower is hard for me its called "Chrysanthemum" not as easy as a rose well for me. So this flower is kinda hard but I think it might have to do with that we use buttercream frosting and your suppose to use royal frosting. So for the flower you need a flower nail with mum template and tip 5 for the center of the flower and a tip81 for the pedals. you make a dot in the center of your nail about the size of a junior mint then with tip 81 you squeeze pull out let off and lift up you do about 6 layers the same way but get smaller each layer. I had a real hard with it. So one of the boarders we learned is a reverse shell where you take a tip 21 and you keep the tip of it off the surface just a little and squeeze till it fans out then lift up and make a number nine and let off and pull then you do one facing the opposite way they are pretty easy. The other one we learned is called a "Rosette" which kinda looks like a flower. this one you use a tip 16 and you make a dot "pretty good size one, make sure it looks like the star" and with out lifting up on your bag you go to 9, 12, 3, and 6 then stop squeezing and pull back to 9 so basically you make a circle and I found it a little harder than the shell but still not to hard. the other flower we did was a Rosebud and I found this one pretty easy and my teacher thought that was kinda funny because I have a hard time with the easy and easy time with the hard stuff. But The class was fun!

First Wedding cake!! Scary

So last night our friend called me and asked me to do their wedding cake. I told him I would. So the wedding isn't till December so I have a little while to practice which I am so glad about. their theme is Christmas so I thought about a 3 tierd cake with red frosting or fondant with a white overlay that looks like snow, then have snow flakes that are sparkly drawn on the top and bottom tier, then on the middle tier a monogram in gold and white because their colors are red, silver, and gold. With flowers on it, the silver will be on the snowflakes. But they are coming over next week to come up with a design, I am really excited about doing the cake but also way nervous I am going to have to practice a lot, before I do their cake.

Last class for course 1.

So I had my last class for course 1 tonight and it was way fun. We finished learning roses and learned how to make leaves and bows. I didn't use any bows on my cake but it was cool to learn. I had so much fun decorating my cake it was the first time we took a cake to class to decorate. For the last three weeks I have been learning stuff in class then coming home and practicing on a cake so I have pictures of 3 more cakes but I can't seem to get them off my phone which really sucks because there are lots of pictures of my little baby on it, but non of the pictures will come off and I really want to put the pics. of my cakes up here. Well next week I start course 2 and there are tons of really cool stuff in that course so stay reading on cake crazy.

Cake classes

Hey so I have been taking cake decorating for the last month and I am loving it! I have learned how to bake a cake properly and get frosted evenly. Which is harder than you would think. You want to know how to get a cake to have the smooth look the secret is using a paper towel and rubbing the cake down with it. pretty cool huh. well here are some of the cakes I have done.
